Sixth Form Awards Evening Celebration

Monday 14th December was a night of celebration as former students from last Year's Year 13 came back to St Cyres for their Awards Evening. Most of the students have just finished their first term at University and were full of tales of student life and enthusiasm for their studies. Ms Annette Chinn, owner of Task Force Paintball Games was the guest speaker who gave some inspiring words to the students and their parents. During the Awards Evening, every student was presented with their A Level certificates, along with a number of special awards.

The George Patch Award for Literature was awarded to Jenna Illingworth and the Marc Morgan Memorial Trophy for excellence in Computing and ICT was awarded to Clare Falconer. Last year's Senior Students were also presented with a special award. It was a pleasure to see our former students back at school once again and we wish them all the very best in all of their future endeavours. (14/12/2009)

St Cyres Party for the Elderly

Pupils from St Cyres School Dinas Powys site once again invited some of our elderly neighbours from Fairoaks in Dinas Powys to the annual Christmas tea party. This party is an important event in the school's calendar and involves the whole of the Dinas Powys site as all pupils are invited to bring in gifts and raffle prizes.
Our guests were treated to musical items and were also served tea, coffee and a range of other Christmas treats by Year 9 pupils. All of our guests from Fairoaks enjoyed the whole afternoon and left with some terrific hampers and raffle prizes, all of which had been donated by pupils and staff at the school. Mrs Mari Jones, Director of Key Stage 3 said "it is always a great occasion when the school works as part of the whole community and it has been a wonderful event for the pupils and our guests alike". Workshop on Conflict

Through their subject curriculum, Year 9 pupils have covered and explored the topic of ‘War and Conflict’, aimed to run up to and include Remembrance Day. As a link to this theme, a workshop was organised between local Artist Nicola Tucker and St Cyres School on the Dinas Powys site. Nicola and Martine, a volunteer from Slovakia introduced the workshop. The plight of the many people throughout the world who are forced to flee their homes with very little time to prepare or gather any belongings was highlighted and this was developed as the theme of the workshop. 'Full Steam Ahead' for St Cyres Rebuilding Plan

A £282,000 funding boost means 'full steam ahead' on the redevelopment of St Cyres Comprehensive School - with work expected to be completed on the Penarth site by early 2012.

The additional money has been agreed by the Welsh Assembly and will enable the Vale of Glamorgan Council to move forward with the £30 million redevelopment plan. In April 2009 the Vale Council approved an allocation of £468,000 from the school building improvement grant towards the cost of the works - but needed the balance to pay for a development study. Jordan won a Highly Commended in the Children's Category.
